fun week with relatives

One of the husband's sister and her family visited us last week. It was a busy week of being with family coupled with therapy and doctor's appointments but we all had a good time. The little man enjoyed torturing his female cousins, lol. He loves his aunt and her family and it is apparent in the way he warmed up to them after just one day. He had fun with all kinds of toys they brought down for their trip especially the Nintendo DS and the portable DVD player which prompted me to look online for one I can buy for him. I don't know what to get though, both are expensive and I may need to save up more money to afford any of it. His cousin even said he wants one like the little man minus the mother. I don't blame him on not wanting the mother part, lol. It was a fun week and I now realize what I missed when we moved down South, being with family all the time. But then we have the visits to look forward to anyway so I guess it is fine. We are now back to our regular routine and I think the little man is getting bored by the day. He always wants the blinds to be open so he can look out the window. And when I tell him to get ready so we can go out he lets me put on his sandals without any objection. He probably thinks we will visit his aunt and her family again. Poor guy. I have to think of activities for him so he will not get bored.

worries

The step-daughter for some reason thinks that there is something wrong with the little man. She makes me believe that the little man needs to be tested in case there is something wrong with his development. We were over her house the other day and she asked me questions pertaining to his reactions when I talk to him or tell him to bring things to me. She finds it odd that the little man will not look at her in the eyes which is so like him when he does not like a person or he is shy. She thinks there is something wrong with her brother. She even asked me if the little man ever looks at me in the eye which I answered yes especially when he wants something from me, lol. He is a charmer and knows what to do to melt our resolve on some things we told him he can't have or do. But anyway, this is not the first time she said something like this. Last year she also told me I should have the little man's hearing tested because he is not talking yet. But now that her son is two years old (he is five months younger than the little man) and not talking like a pro she gives it up but is now making me believe that my son may have autism and went on about how much I will get if there really is something wrong with him. I don't mean any offense on mothers of kids with autism but I would rather have the little man without problems than getting all the benefits she was talking about. I told her autism will not be very evident anyway until a kid turns three. Until then I will keep on believing that my boy is healthy and pray that he will start talking coherently before then. The husband is firm in his belief that his son is fine. We are around him often than most people so we should notice if something is off. I just hope she is wrong for my peace of mind.

fear

Last night my son exhibited pure fear. That was the first time it happened and I can feel his distress while it was going on. The cause? Him and his father were watching Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. You would think he will not feel anything just from watching the movie but he did. I was in the computer when he ran up to me. The scene was when Harry was fighting the giant snake. I brought him back to the couch where he was sitting and watched the movie with them. It did not stop him being afraid (I don't know whether for Harry or because of the snake) and he even covered his face and only peeked from time to time. The husband was thrilled with his son's reaction to the movie because he said it was so unexpected. Well, at least now I know that my son's development is on track. I thought at first he does not fear anything considering he climbs up on everything and is never afraid of falling down. I did not know it will only take a movie for him to be afraid, lol.
