my little boy

I was looking at old pictures of bubby that I have saved in the computer and I am amazed at how fast he is growing. I sometimes miss the time when he relied on me on everything. Now that he is eighteen months old he is little mister independent. He likes to do some things on his own like brushing his teeth or eating by himself. I like it but there are times when I feel silly and long for the days when he was still a little baby and was content on being held. That singing Bahay Kubo was enough to pacify him and bring him to sleep. Now making him sleep is simple, give him a bottle of milk, put him to his bed and just leave him alone and he will sleep on his own. No cuddling, no more singing, no more dancing. And yet I still hope that he will sleep when I rock him. He thinks he is a big boy and doesn't like it. The good thing now is he likes it when I play with him. I better be grateful for small blessings eh? At least he is not a fussy boy and I must admit with him sleeping on his own gives me time for myself and for hubby.

toddler hygiene

the frame in this mirror is supposed to be white..something's wrong with my camera.

Took this picture last night after I gave bubby a bath. He knew that mama's going to brush his teeth and he wanted to do it himself so I let him. He refused to give me the toothbrush when I asked and insisted he do it himself but I didn't want to take chances so I told him I had to do it just like we did before. Thankfully he listened (albeit with a whine) and so I brushed his teeth and got him ready for bed. My son is a stickler for routine and he remembers if I made a promise. He never fails to remind me too though not in words but in action. Like banging the bathroom door when I forgot to give him a bath, or trying to climb up his bed when he is ready for a nap. Yeah, I am one of those lucky parents whose toddler still takes naps sometimes twice in a day. I hope he will not give up his naps because it will be good for him. Not to mention it gives me time to do whatever I have to do.
He also knows when mealtimes are and when his favorite show is going to be on. He is getting more and more a handful everyday and sometimes I can't keep up with his energy but I am not complaining. At least he is healthy and he is learning new things. I can't wait for him to talk clear. I am sure it will be something to look forward to.

where is mama?

Bubby and mama played earlier. Mama decided to stay away from the computer after she checked her email accounts and spend time playing with her boy. It was fun and rough. Playing rough usually takes a toll on the older one so mama had to rest while bubby messed with dada's computer stuff still in the box.
He ran to the bedroom and wouldn't come out no matter if I had called him several times. So I hid behind the couch and wait for him to get out and come looking for me. Sure enough when I stopped calling he went out giggling thinking that I was lying in the couch. When he didn't see me he ran to the kitchen to look. Nope, mama wasn't there. She wasn't in the computer table either. That was when he panicked. He started crying. I was laughing behind the couch just looking at him. Poor boy cried and whined when he thought he lost mama, lol. When I said boo he looked at me and laughed. Gave him a scare there huh. Now when he goes anywhere in the house he would come back and look and sometimes as if looking is not enough would touch my leg before resuming what he was doing. He is such a charmer that sometimes it is hard to discipline him. I have to though or else he will walk all over me and dada which isn't good for either uf us.

18 months

My boy turned 18 months old today. I can't believe it has been eighteen months since that chaotic day at the hospital. I don't want to remember the bad memories, only the good ones but I still can't help but be affected with it. The good thing that came out was the fact that my boy was healthy and he is growing smart. I know I sound like a broken record when I talk about my son but what mother won't be proud of her child? There are times he makes me feel frustrated and mad but most of the time he just melts my heart. As a mother I can't help but be proud of him and brag about his accomplishments. Here's a wish that he will grow up to be a good boy. I love you son. So much!

No!

Yesterday when I was feeding bubby I noticed his nails were long so I decided to clip it. I do it once a week actually but I don't remember the last time I did that I might've forgotten to do it last week. I know I am getting old and forgetful. So anyways, while he was in his highchair I started clipping his nails. This usually takes forever because he would jerk his legs away from me making it hard for me to finish the task. Well yesterday he didn't only jerked his legs he said No! too. I was dumbfounded. Was it really that hard to be still while somebody else clip your nails? I looked at him and said in a firm but low voice, you will stay still so mama will get done clipping your nails and then you will be free to do whatever you please as long as it is safe. Now I know that was quite a speech intended for a one year old but I am not into baby talk and I don't want him to get used to it. I talk to him like an older kid. He understood and was still for a few minutes and then back to jerking again. I guess it is so hard for him to be still when he thinks he can run around and play. Thankfully I found an unused drinking straw and gave it to him which made him so happy he was almost willing to let me do as I please. We finished after so much jerking and No's and now his nails are neat and clean. I now dread the next clipping session :D

new haircut

I decided to cut bubby's hair a while ago. We have been meaning to cut his hair and we always put it off both afraid of how bubby will react to it. I was looking at him playing earlier and I just had the notion to do it alone. So I did. It was very difficult at first because aside from cutting hubby's hair using a clipper, I don't really have any experience cutting somebody else hair. I am a novice.
Anyways, I thought at least bubby won't complain about it yet so now is my chance. I really hate to cut his hair because it is pretty but it is getting long and I hate for people to look at him and mistook him for a girl. Even with all his boy clothes and shoes.
It was hard when I started cutting his hair because he fidgeted a lot. Something to do with the sound and feel of the scissor and the hair falling off his back. He was uncomfortable with it. But after sometime he was good and I was able to do more. Except for the back. It is kinda wavy which made me think hubby will want to trim it when he gets home. He looks better with shorter hair and I think I did a pretty good job. When he gets older though we really have to go to the barber.

milestones and more

Bubby will be 18 months old this month. He is like a little man. I mean, he doesn't act like a baby most of the time even if he calls himself baby. He can now self-feed (has been for a while), waves bye2 while saying ba-ba. He is a good boy though sometimes he can't contain his energy and inquisitiveness. Shame I don't have a baby book for him though I kept his things from the hospital in a folder. I didn't write down the dates (it's in the pc) he made his milestones though. I know I should have but at the time I was overwhelmed with everything concerning pregnancy and giving birth that I didn't get me a baby book. Here are the things I remember he did when he was a newborn up to now. I actually have the dates on my computer because I take pictures and videos of him on those important moments. I should print this pictures and compile it in a new folder or maybe a baby book or a CD. Maybe when I get out of this lazy streak.

Here is a list of my jt's accomplishments.

* was able to lift his head unsupported at two weeks old
* was able to hold his baba at 2 months
* can roll over from side to side at 4 months
* crawled on all fours at 6 months
* eats baby food three times a day since 6 months old
* started walking at 10 months
* sleeps in his own bed eversince he was born (wouldn't sleep with us at all)
* doesn't fuss at either bedtime or naptime..just give him a bottle and he will be content to stay in his bed until he sleeps
* knows how to sip from a cup or a straw (did this at 17 months)
* can operate his four wheeler unassisted
* knows how to turn off the pc and what the CD-ROM drive is for (give him a DVD and he will run straight to the pc to try to put it on)
* runs to the bathroom when mama says bathtime
* remembers promises i made for some reason..the other night i was ready to put him to bed but he ran to the bathroom and bangs the door while whining. He repeatedly did it that i remembered i promised him a bath before bedtime.
* rushes to the door after i put his shoes on (laagan man liwat sa tatay, lol)
* loves wheel of fortune and would try to guess the letters while clapping his hands and spinning his four-wheeler's wheel
* knows how to turn the tv on and off and switch channels if he doesn't like what is on (he can reach our television set)
* tries to brush his teeth by himself..i let him do it and then get the toothbrush from him and finish the job for him
* knows how to brush his hair
* knows what the cellphone is for..puts it near his ear and acts like he is talking to somebody

There are a lot of things bubby does that hubby thinks he shouldn't be doing yet. He is so funny sometimes that I would just sit in the couch and let him do his things. I have to watch him though because he does things he isn't supposed to do like trying to plug his radio on an electric outlet which absolutely isn't safe. Most of the electrical outlets have those plastic covers for his safety. I don't want to take chances when it comes to my boy.

ba-ba

I have been teaching my son to wave bye-bye for a while and he would do it only if he felt like it. I know, he is a kid and I can't rely on him responding the way I like all the time so I left it at that. I don't want to pressure him because it will only lead to frustration for me and him. Yesterday, I babysat a toddler younger than him by a few months. When the parents were about to leave, the father said goodbye to his son. When bubby heard it, he waved his hand and said ba-ba (bye-bye). I was surprised and proud. I thought it might just be a one day wonder but just this morning he woke me up and I remembered yesterday's event so I waved at him and what d you know? He waved back and said ba-ba. I did it over and over again, in between his blabbering and me talking. It is funny. I hope he will learn more. When he gets excited he tries to talk but I can't understand a thing he says. I should pay more attention. For now let me be happy with my bubby's accomplishment.
